Self-Acceptance: A Starting Point, Not Surrender

Apr 02, 2026 · 6 min
We live in a world that constantly pressures us to change. A new diet, a new book, a life-changing course — everything reminds us that what we are isn't enough. We try to change. We work twice as hard to become 'better.' But it's like knocking on a closed door — eventually we lose faith in ourselves. Change is hard — you know that already. But have you considered that it's hard *for a reason*? How much time, money, and energy have you wasted trying to change who you are? Tasha Eurich writes: 'Where self-esteem means thinking you're amazing regardless of objective reality, **self-acceptance** means understanding your objective reality and choosing to like yourself anyway.' Acceptance isn't laziness or passivity. It's honesty with yourself. It's admitting you're an imperfect human — and that's okay. Without acceptance, improvement is impossible. With acceptance, improvement begins.
